The Mountain Hardwear Hammerhead 2 tent is perfect for short hikes to camp sites and car camping. The Hammerhead 2's large doors and tall ceiling make multiple trips into and out of the tent quick and painless. The interior height of the tent is a lofty 45", about four inches taller than most other two-person tents, giving you more headroom when you're inside. The two D-shape side doors stay off the ground when open, and are made of mesh no-see-um netting to keep air flowing while halting pests. The ceiling panel rolls back for additional ventilation and communication with the outside world. In addition, there is a vestibule at each door to for added weather protection and storage room. I am a boyscout and have had this tent for around 2 1/2 years now.
Pros:
- Stays dry
- Compact for a 2 man tent
- Very nice for warm camping
- View is awesome if you have a clear sky
- 1 man setup
- Light
Cons:
- The first time I set up this tent I noticed something odd. The middle pole (which goes across) is too long, and the result is that the floor of the tent has a buckle in the middle on the inside. It doesn't really affect anything, but I do feel short changed on space.
- The fly for this tent is extremely annoying to put on. It's hard to tell which side is the underside and which side the doors go on. To solve this I just put a piece of tape on it, but its still takes a really long time to figure out in the dark (which is sometimes the case for me).
- There is not a ground cloth (ground tarp) built into the tent, so you must put on down if you think it will rain or get damp at night, otherwise the floor WILL get wet.
I'm 6'6" so I can fit myself and one other person in here, but gear has trouble fitting. However, the fly creates a space between the tent and edge of the fly that you can put your gear or shoes in. Anyone of average height should have no problem fitting 2 people and gear in this tent. Happy camping!
